Princess Charlotte recently reached an important royal milestone that went mostly unrecognized.
The 10-year-old princess, the second-eldest of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three daughters, attended the Women’s Euros final with her father in Bazel, Switzerland, yesterday (27 July).
People around the world watched as Spain started well, scoring a goal within the first 25 minutes. While nerves were high, England quickly equalized, with Alessia Russo scoring in the 57th minute.
After we stayed 1-1 throughout the 30 minutes of extra time, football fans from all over were baffled to the TV as the two teams battled it out on penalties.
England were able to keep their Women’s Euros title after beating Spain 3-1 on penalties, with Alex Greenwood, Niamh Charles, and Chloe Kelly getting the goals in the back of the net.
As the Lionesses lifted their trophy, Charlotte became the first of her siblings to sign an official statement using her full name, marking a very historic moment for the future monarch in training.
Charlotte, who has already signed off messages with a single initial ‘C’, and William issued a joint message to the Lionesses that was simply signed ‘W & Charlotte’.
The full statement, posted on Kensington Royal’s official X account, wrote: “What a game! @Lionesses, you are the champions of Europe and we couldn’t be prouder of the whole team. Enjoy this moment @England.
“W & Charlotte.”
It noted the very first time that Charlotte has used her full given name in public royal communications, as never before has she contributed directly to an official statement in this way.
Charlotte’s use of her entire name rather than just ‘C’ acknowledges her emerging role as a working royal, but it also indicates that the pre-teen is beginning to learn how the monarchy communicates, namely how a signature may signify authority and authenticity.
“Thank you for supporting them in person, W & Charlotte!! Your presence must have been very inspiring for them,” penned one royal fan on X.
A second commented: “‘W &Charlotte’!”
“The Lionesses are incredible – true inspirations and a well deserved win (‘& Charlotte’)” gushed a third.
Another noted: “I was seriously holding my breath till the end but the Lionesses came through! What a treat to have Prince William and Princess Charlotte there to watch their victory!”
And a final X user continued: “Congratulations to the champion Lionesses. Must be exciting for Princess Charlotte to witness it live with her dad.”
