People outraged after learning ‘disgusting’ amount of money British monarchy is offering for cleaning assistant role

Social media users have been left frightened after noticing a job advert for a housecleaning role over on the Royal Household website.

The job ad, which was posted earlier this month, lists the job description, location and hours of work.

But people were particularly related to the salary for the role, with many solving issue with the hourly rate.

Over on the website, the listing explains the kind of candidate they are seeking.

“We’re finding passionate, conscientious, and detail-focused individuals to join our Housecleaning team,” it reads.

“Working across public areas, facilities, front and back-of-house spaces, and bedrooms, you’ll help make sure every environment is presented at its very best.”

The job description continues to explain that, in joining the Royal Household’s professional team, employees would ‘take pride in the cleaning, care, and upkeep of a wide range of interiors, furnishings, and historic items’.

“Learning from experienced colleagues, you’ll develop specialist skills and techniques, always striving for the highest possible standards,” the listing continues. “Working in an environment where development and training are common place, you’ll be able to grow your skills.”

The website continued to outline their offer of a ‘generous benefits package designed to support your wellbeing and life priorities’ which includes 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 days (plus bank holidays) ‘dependent on the length of time you have worked for us’.

The Royal Household also boasted over their ‘excellent non-contributory pension plan’ as well as complimentary lunch on-site ‘to maintain you fuelled throughout the day’.

“We also privide a range of leave options to support your life priorities, such as parental pay and leave and volunteering days, as well as benefits to support your physical and mental wellbeing,” the listing added.

However, the hourly rate of £12.60 did not record well with people online with many rushing to social media to share their gripes.

One Twitter user said: “The British monarchy offers £12.60/hour for a cleaning assistant at Holyroodhouse, £5.40 less than the average payment for the role.”

“This is actually disgusting,” annouced a second while a third slammed: “Seriously?? I make more than that cleaning airbnbs. like, I can work 4-5 hours in a day and make more than these people do. That’s so f*cked.”

And a fourth chimed in: “This is tragic.”
