The Driving Lesson at 85
An elderly couple, Walter and Martha, were driving down a busy multi-lane highway. Walter was at the wheel, but his eyesight and driving skills weren’t as sharp as they used to be. Martha was sitting in the passenger seat, acting as his co-pilot.
Suddenly, Walter drove straight through a very busy intersection without noticing that the traffic light was completely red.
Martha gasped, clutched the dashboard, and screamed, “Walter! You just ran a red light! What on earth are you doing?”
Walter blinked, looked completely confused, and said, “Oh, did I? I’m sorry, dear, I didn’t see it.”
Two minutes later, they approached another intersection. Again, the light turned solid red. Walter didn’t tap the brakes at all and sailed right through the intersection, narrowly missing a delivery truck.
Martha completely lost her mind. She yelled, “Walter!! That’s the second red light you’ve run in a row! Are you trying to k*ll us? Stop the car right now!”
Walter turned his head, looked at Martha with wide, innocent eyes, and replied, “Wait a minute, Martha… you mean I’m the one who’s driving?!”
