A lip reader has suggested that Prince Harry spoke negatively about his family during his father’s coronation in 2023.
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, preparations for Prince Charles’s ascension to the throne began quickly. The coronation in May 2023 was a significant event, with several royal traditions being altered by the newly crowned King.
While Meghan Markle was absent, Prince Harry attended the event. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had stepped down from their senior royal roles in 2020 and relocated to the U.S. Since then, Harry released his memoir Spare in January 2023, where he discussed his relationships with his brother, Prince William, and his father.
During the coronation, Prince Harry was seated next to his cousin Princess Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank. According to lip reader Jeremy Freeman, Harry allegedly whispered some critical comments about his family.
Harry reportedly said, “I’m fed up with the way they treat me,” adding, “It’s not an ideal situation.” To this, Brooksbank is said to have responded, “It’s not the quiet life, is it?”
Harry is then said to have shaken his head and replied, “They don’t care.”
Brooksbank reportedly remarked, “I haven’t time for that. Not if it’s over…”
Harry allegedly responded, “It’s an eventuality.”
Since stepping down as a senior royal, Harry has been outspoken about his experiences within the Royal Family.
In a 2024 interview with ITV, he expressed his love for his father and his desire to repair his relationship with his brother.
When asked about William’s possible reaction to the allegations in his memoir, Harry acknowledged that his brother would likely say many things, including, “How could you do this to me after everything we went through?”
In the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, Harry explained that his ongoing battle with the tabloids played a significant role in the rift with his family. He described it as a central issue, acknowledging that discussing his family often led to media backlash.
“I’ve made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done,” he stated. “It would be nice if we did it as a family, but I believe from a service standpoint that these are things we should do for the greater good. I’m doing this for my reasons.”
Harry added, “I think everything that has happened has shown people the truth. For me, the mission continues, and it has caused part of a rift.”
