Prince William may be handed a new key role as a new baby joins the Royal Family in just a few months.
Hugh and Olivia Grosvenor, also known as the Duke and Duchess of Westminster, revealed on Wednesday (12 March) that they are expecting their first child together.
A representative for the high-profile couple informed the media in a statement: “The Duke and Duchess of Westminster are very pleased to share that the Duchess is expecting a baby this summer.”
The announcement continued: “The couple are delighted with the news and are very much looking forward to starting a family together.”
Many royal family fans have already predicted that William will be the child’s godfather, given that he and his brother Prince Harry grew up close to Hugh – who is, in turn, the godfather of their two sons, Prince George and Prince Archie. Some have rushed to social media to share their speculation, with one X user asking: “Do you think Prince William will be a Godfather? “I am confident he will be…”
Given the royal family’s traditions, such a supposition appears to be rather plausible.
Hugh is also the godson of King Charles III, and his mother, Natalia, is godmother to William.
He and and Olivia – who reportedly met through friends – wed at Chester Cathedral in June of last year, where the Prince of Wales served as one of his ushers.
Speaking of William, the prince made a public appearance earlier this week on Tuesday (11 March) at a referee training session as part of a mission to recruit more people from Black, Asian, and mixed heritage backgrounds to officiating positions.
And it’s evident from the event that he didn’t hold back on his response about turning bald.
William, the Football Association’s patron, visited the course at Sporting Khalsa FC in Willenhall, West Midlands, just one day after attending the Commonwealth Day service in London with his wife, Kate Middleton.
